Vancouver Island and Coast Mountains – Carved Wood Topographical Map

This is a carving of Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Southern Great Bear Rainforest in the Coast Mountain Range. The wood is a locally sourced slice of Douglas fir from Vancouver Island. It was saved from an old-growth tree which was taken down on private lands in North Saanich (WSÁNEĆ territory).

The one-of-a-kind topographical map offers a rare chance to explore the island’s valleys and ridges in 3D. Patterns and anomalies in the landscape’s elevations are revealed in a way that no two-dimensional map can.

Best viewed with side lighting, the carving is stunning as a wall hanging. It is a guaranteed conversation starter – be ready to spend time tracing the many mountain ranges and counting the tree rings with curious guests!
